Godbit Takes on the Frontline of the Man’s Battle
In the trenches against pornography over at Godbit, Nathan Logan, got it right: IT IS A BATTLE. One of the biggest for us Christian men. We all need to guard our hearts. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matt. 6:21). Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (Eph. 6:11)
Be even more aware, though. I have found some Christians who got tripped up on the issue and used erotic art to promote a purity conference. (??)
As part of my own testimony: In the time I walked away from Jesus, I used to be a figure artist. For a couple years I would meet 2-3 times a week with various groups drawing naked people. See, now, I used to rationalize it as not pornography because I wasn?t arroused and it was ??art.?? That, in fact, is even worse. Wanna talk about desensitization?! I could stare at the female body for hours on end, intently, and it had no affect on me. During that whole time I never looked at any ??typical?? porn. Never visted any online porn stuff. THAT?s how entrenched and deceived I was??.
I produced probably 500+ different sketches in that time. At the point I rededicated my life to Christ, the Lord was faithful to pull me away. Immediately, I dropped masturbation. I quit the drawing classes about 3 months in, and by the end of my first year back in the flock, near the end of that sabbatical I?ve talked about, one of my pastors and an assitant pastor came to my apartment and we burned every single page in my BBQ grill. Books, magazines, etc. Funny thing was, I didn?t have one single ??typical?? porn article. It was all ??artsy?? stuff.
For the longest time, I didn?t think I?d ever be restored. Satan would tell me over and over that I?d ruined my ability to appreciate women for who they were: God?s creation.
But God is faithful. Through much prayer, meditating on His Word, and staying faithful to His direction of purity, He blessed me with a beautiful wife and now it?s all good.
Let me point out, though: MARRIAGE WILL NOT SAVE YOU. The battle goes on. Only through discipline and faithfulness to our Lord, and reliance on His Spirit will you find salvation.
There are a couple other resources that I found really helpful:

And actually, my company manufactures one of the products sold on Family Safe Media: TV Channel Blocker.
It is a struggle that mostly men deal with, but I’d note women have to deal with the challenge as well ? only to a lesser extent or in different ways. That’s not for me to discuss, though.

Chris, thanks for the comments regarding the article. I know it’s something that is a huge struggle for almost all men, and obviously for me, it’s been a major fight.
And I think your comment regarding women struggling with the issue, albeit often in different ways, is _dead on_. And I feel bad that better resources aren’t out there for women. I think this may be a growing issue in our culture, as we progress exponentially in sexual immorality. It would be really neat to see a ministry focused towards the female struggle with this issue come up and help women. That’s something we can pray for.

Yes, women do have a similar struggle, but it’s not so much in visual. It’s more about fantasizing about how men act as opposed to how they look. Generally speaking of course, but a woman’s trouble-spot that can lead to an affair is typically in fabricating scenarios in which a man does their ideal, not looks their ideal.
Our sisters can get tripped in thinking that men are going to be their “white knights.” When in fact, there is only One who has the capacity to completely protect and cover them: Jesus Christ.
That may have something to do with the way He designed us, though. Another thought: just as our sisters have responsibility to guard their brother’s eyes by being modest and conservative in their attire, we as men have a responsibility to redirect our sisters to the cross.
